Crime stats and crime in SA

Recently the Crime Stats for South Africa for the period from April 2013 to April 2014 were made available. Having recently looked through those crime stats, here are some figures and tables. These stats are the official ones made available by the South African Police.

Statistics are meaningful and these crime stats, depending on how they’re interpreted and presented, can be used to paint various pictures of the nature of crime in South Africa. I’m not, here, trying to paint a negative picture and argue how dangerous South Africa is. Further, I’m not a math or stats guru and don’t aim to be precise in my commentary. What stood out for me was how many incidences took place in the city and province in which I live and I want to try to present this as simply and straight forward as possible.
